News Release: City/School Election - Tuesday, November 7, 2023

Melissa Eilander, Poweshiek County Auditor and Commissioner of Elections, advises residents of Poweshiek County, Iowa, who wish to register to vote by mail for the upcoming City/School Election held on November 7, 2023, that mail-in voter registration forms, which are returned by mail, must be postmarked no later than Monday, October 23, 2023 to be considered valid for the election, even if received in Auditor’s Office after the close of registration. The completed form can be mailed to the Auditor’s Office, PO Box 57, Montezuma, IA 50171. It is also permissible for mail-in voter registration forms to be personally delivered to the Auditor’s Office in Montezuma no later than 5:00 p.m. on Monday, October 23, 2023.

Voters already registered in Poweshiek County who need to record a name or address change are encouraged to update that information before the pre-registration deadline, October 23, 2023. If you arrive at the polls on Election Day, you will be required to show proof of identity and residency.

Anyone wishing to vote absentee before Election Day may do so starting on October 18, 2023 by stopping in the Auditor’s office, Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM until 4:00 PM.

A voter may request an absentee by mail, may request a ballot by either completing a State of Iowa Official Absentee Ballot Request Form or write on a piece of paper no smaller than 3x5 inches the following information: Name of voter, voter’s address, address to which the ballot should be sent (if different from voter’s address), voter’s date of birth, date and/or name of the election for which the voter is requesting a ballot, voter’s signature, and date of signature. The completed request can be mailed to the Auditor’s Office, PO Box 57, Montezuma, IA 50171.  Voters may begin turning in absentee request forms on August 29, 2023.  The first day to mail requested ballots is October 18, 2023 and the last day the Auditor’s Office can mail out a requested ballot is October 23, 2023.
