SPECIAL ELECTION - Grinnell-Newburg Community School

Special Election
A Special Election is any election that is not regularly scheduled. A special election may be held for any purpose authorized or required by law; often to fill a vacancy or for a public measure.
Notice of change of polling place in accordance with 2025 Code of Iowa Chapter 49. All Poweshiek County voters within the Grinnell-Newburg Community School District (for this election only) will vote at: Elks Lodge, 720 3rd Ave, Grinnell, IA ------ Jasper County voters within the Grinnell-Newburg Community School District will vote in Jasper County and should contact Jasper County Auditor for the polling location.

Residents of Poweshiek County, Iowa, who reside in the Grinnell-Newburg Community School District and wish to register to vote by mail for the upcoming Special Election held on March 4, 2025, that mail-in voter registration forms, which are returned by mail, must be postmarked no later than Tuesday, February 18, 2025 to be considered valid for the election, even if received in Auditor’s Office after the close of registration.  The completed form can be mailed to the Auditor’s Office, PO Box 57, Montezuma, IA  50171. It is also permissible for voter registration forms to be personally delivered to the Auditor’s Office in Montezuma no later than 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 18, 2025.

Voters already registered in Poweshiek County residing in the Grinnell-Newburg Community School District who need to record a name or address change are encouraged to update that information before the pre-registration deadline, February 18, 2025.  If you arrive at the polls on Election Day, you will be required to show proof of identity and residency.

Anyone wishing to vote absentee before Election Day may do so starting on February 12, 2025, at the Auditor’s office, Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM.  A voter may request a ballot by either completing a State of Iowa Official Absentee Ballot Request Form or write on a piece of paper no smaller than 3x5 inches the following information: Name of voter, voter’s address, address to which the ballot should be sent (if different from voter’s address), voter’s date of birth, voter’s driver license number or 4-digit PIN, date and/or name of the election for which the voter is requesting a ballot, voter’s signature, and date of signature.  The completed request can be mailed to the Auditor’s Office, PO Box 57, Montezuma, IA  50171 and must be received by 5:00 p.m. on February 18, 2025.   The last day the Auditor’s Office can mail out a requested ballot is February 18, 2025.

Voter Registration and Official Absentee Ballot Request forms are available by mail from the Auditor’s Office or on the web at the Iowa Secretary of State’s website: www.sos.state.gov  For further information, please contact the Auditor’s office at 641-623-5443.

Voting equipment testing will begin on Tuesday, February 4, 2025, at 9:00 AM in the lower level conference room, Courthouse, Montezuma.
