A General Election is the election in which federal and state officers, members of Congress and of the general assembly, county and township officers, and other officers appear on the ballot. General Elections are held the 1st Tuesday after the 1st Monday in November of each even-numbered year.

August 27 - First day to submit an Absentee Ballot Request Form
September 19 - Satellite Voting Petition Deadline
October 16 - Absentee ballots ready; First day to vote in-person absentee
October 17 - Satellite voting, Grinnell College, JRC Room 101, 1115 8th Avenue, Grinnell; 9 AM - 3 PM
October 21 - Auditor's Office open 8:00am - 5:00pm; Voter pre-registration deadline; Deadline to request an absentee ballot to be mailed
October 21 - Satellite voting, Drake Library, 930 Park St, Grinnell; 9 AM - 3 PM
October 23 - Satelllite voting, Seeland Park, Social Center, 2021 4th Ave, Grinnell; 9 AM - 3 PM
November 2 - Auditor's Office open 9:00am - 5:00pm
November 4 - In-person absentee voting deadline
November 5 - Election Day. Polls are open from 7 am to 8 pm.
Absentee Ballots will available from the Poweshiek County Auditor, Melissa Eilander beginning on October 16, 2024 for the General Election held November 5, 2024.
To Request an Absentee Ballot: A voter may request a ballot by either completing a State of Iowa Official Absentee Ballot Request Form or write on a piece of paper no smaller than 3x5 inches the following information: Name of voter, voter’s address, address to which the ballot should be sent, if different from voter’s address, voter’s date of birth, driver license number or voter pin number, date and/or name of the election for which the voter is requesting a ballot & voter’s signature and date of signature. The completed request can be mailed to the Auditor’s Office, PO Box 57, Montezuma, IA 50171.
The last day the Auditor’s office can mail out a requested ballot will be October 21, 2024.

Absentee voters may also vote in person at the County Auditor's Office beginning October 16, 2024 through November 4, 2024. Courthouse hours are 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
