NEWS RELEASE

 

PRIMARY ELECTION – TUESDAY, JUNE 7, 2022

Voter pre-registration deadline is May 23, 2022, for the Primary Election that will be held on Tuesday, June 7, 2022.

Election Day Registration took effect on January 1, 2008.  This means you may now register at your precinct on Election Day.  If you plan to register on Election Day, you will need to provide proof of identity (Photo ID), proof of residency (your current address in the precinct), and sign an oath.  This process will take extra time at the polling place.  Voters are still encouraged to pre-register by Monday, May 23, 2022, in the Auditor’s office if your residence has changed.

If you are currently a registered voter in Poweshiek County but have recently moved, you are encouraged to update your voter registration before the pre-registration deadline of May 23, 2022.  If you arrive at the polls on Election Day, you will be required to show proof of identity and residency.

Anyone wishing to vote absentee before Election Day may do so starting on May 18, 2022, at the Auditor’s office, Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM until 4:00 PM. Voter Registration and Official Absentee Ballot Request forms are available by mail or on the web at the Iowa Secretary of State’s website: https://sos.iowa.gov/  For further information, please contact the Auditor’s office at 641-623-5443.

Voting Equipment testing will begin on Tuesday, May 17, 2022, at 9:00 AM in the conference room, courthouse, Montezuma.

Sample ballots for the Primary Election will published the week of May 18, 2022.  Sample ballots are on the Poweshiek County Election site: https://poweshiekcounty.iowa.gov/   

Please consider this your official notice as to when we will conduct the post-election audit for the June 7, 2022, Primary Election.  The audit will begin Friday, June 10, 2022, at 9:00 A.M. in the boardroom, main floor, courthouse.

Pursuant to IAC 721-26.202(3), a representative selected by each of the two political parties whose candidate received the highest number of votes statewide in the preceding general election shall be invited to observe the hand count.  The commissioner shall notify the county chairperson of each political party a minimum of two days before the hand count of the time and place of the hand count.
